Just a few more weeks until Summer Learning Day! Mayors, council members, superintendents, principals and other local leaders understand that a strong education system is beneficial to local economy and community development. They also need to understand how summer learning loss can undermine overall academic success and the community's future. Expanding summer learning opportunities can support and accelerate education goals. Summer Learning Day offers a great opportunity to engage these leaders and ensure they are working to provide more and better summer learning opportunities for young people, especially in literacy proficiency.

Here are a few tips for engaging local leaders:

  • Ask your mayor or city council to pass a resolution
  • Record PSAs with elected officials
  • Enlist the local business community

  • The Mayor's Summer Learning Playbook is another great tool to assist you and your communities in informing Mayors of the importance of expanding summer learning opportunities to stem summer learning loss and improve the academic and economic future of their communities. Included in this playbook are recommendations for engaging Mayor’s in your community.
