At the Urban Libraries Council, we know that early fall is the time when public libraries are reflecting on the summer programming that just concluded and already making great plans for the year ahead. We are pleased to share our latest resource, Libraries at the Center of Summer Learning and Fun: An Online Toolkit to Expand from Summer Reading to Summer Learning designed to facilitate this early planning process and help libraries expand summer reading to include innovative, hands-on learning opportunities for more children and youth.

Please share the link to this online toolkit with your networks so that they may access “how-to” examples and resources for easily implementing active, creative, problem-solving learning opportunities for library summer program participants. With this online toolkit, we hope to raise awareness of the leading role that public libraries play in mitigating the summer slide for millions of youth across North America.

The toolkit was developed in partnership with the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) as a part of the Accelerate Summer initiative supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
