This week’s update from the Network Communities Support Center includes community stories, funding opportunities, conference announcements, and an attendance toolkit for the holidays:
We received 6 new Tell Our Story submissions in the past two weeks, from Richmond, CA, New Britain, CT, Providence, RI, Newark, NJ, Bridgeport, CT, and Waterbury, CT. That brings our total to 72 stories from over 80 communities!
American Honda Foundation is accepting applications from 501(c)(3) nonprofits and schools for STEM programs, environmental projects, job training, and literacy programs. Grants will range from $20,000 to $75,000. Apply by February 1, 2014.
Congratulations to the New York Life Excellence in Summer Learning award winners: the Boston Summer Learning Project, the Connecticut Pre-Engineering Program (CPEP), and Freedom School Partners (Charlotte, NC). If you missed out this year, programs advancing early literacy can apply for next year's award. Winners will receive $10,000 from the New York Life Foundation. Applications are due Friday, February 14th, 2014.
The days before and after winter break can present an attendance challenge, but they are also an opportunity to educate parents about the importance of regular attendance. Registration is now open for the 2014 Coalition for Community Schools National Forum, held April 9-11 in Cincinnati, Ohio. This year's theme is "Community Schools: The Engine of Opportunity." Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about partnerships between schools and communities, network, and visit Community Learning Center sites.
