Friday Round-Up, November 1, 2013

Here are a few updates for the week from the Network Communities Support Center:

  • This week’s featured Tell Our Story submission comes from the Rural Literacy Coalition in Texas where over the last year their Capacity Building and Technical Institute offered monthly trainings to 503 community leaders and program providers. The participants learned about the goals of the Campaign and specific strategies to reach objectives described in the Community Solutions Action Plan (CSAP). Read more about this story, which illustrates how to use your initial coalition to engage and mobilize a broader constituency to support your Campaign.

  • Join Attendance Works for another great webinar on Wednesday, November 6 from 1-2:30 p.m. ET. The webinar, Making Attendance Matter: Tips for Moving from Awareness to Action will cover strategies including monitoring data more closely, creating cross-disciplinary attendance teams at local schools, and developing personalized outreach to at-risk students and families. It will spotlight efforts in Portland, Ore.; Oakland, Calif.; and New Bedford, Mass. The new Attendance Works toolkit, What Works in Our Community, will help you identify positive attendance outliers, learn about effective and replicable practices, and find innovative and inspiring community leaders.

  • There will be a networking reception for registered GLR Network members on Tuesday, November 12 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. ET at the National Summer Learning Association's annual conference in Orlando from November 11-13. It’s not too late to register and join 69 individuals representing at least 26 GLR Network communities!
