Friday Round-Up, September 27, 2013
I hope all is well. It’s clear to us that September has been a wonderful month for the GLR Network Communities!
We’ve heard from more than 75 of you who are celebrating Attendance Awareness Month and we have received 60 submissions for the Tell Our Story effort. We are so inspired by your participation in these events that we wanted to make sure that you had the dates for the six events that we’re encouraging the Network to participate in 2014 well in advance. Attached is a copy of a calendar for you to use and share with members of your sponsoring coalition.
Here are a few updates for the week from the Network Communities Support Center:
This week we received Tell Our Story submissions from Long Beach, CA, Las Vegas, NV, Madison, NY, Seattle, WA, Louisville, KY, and Gulfport, MS, bringing our community participation up to 60 communities! Last week we received stories from San Francisco, CA, Pittsfield, MA, and Charlotte, NC. We encourage you to continue submitting and/or reading stories. Please aim to send in your stories by the end of the month, and thank you to those of you who have already submitted!
You can now register for the National Summer Learning Association's annual conference in Orlando this November 11-13. Early literacy and grade-level reading will be this year's core topic, and early literacy will be featured in a new 'power session' format, giving attendees deeper insight into major and relevant issues in the summer learning field.
America's Promise Alliance is working with the GLR Campaign to sponsor a webinar on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. ET about the impact of health on early learning. The webinar will address the impact of health on the three community solution areas and will feature Leslie Parks, Deputy Director at the Center for School, Health and Education at the American Public Health Association (APHA), Jeanne Jehl, team leader for the GLR Healthy Readers initiative, and Rebecca Boxx, from the Providence Children and Youth Cabinet.
If you wish to join the October training cohort for the Campaign's Results Scorecard pilot, you should complete the "Expression of Interest” survey no later than Friday, October 4. Also, SAVE THE DATE and register for the October introductory/launch webinar, scheduled for Tuesday, October 8, from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Eastern. If you have already submitted an "Expression of Interest" to join the September cohort and subsequently decided to postpone joining until October, you do not need to complete another survey; instead, please email Bob Saffold (firstname.lastname@example.org) to confirm your intention to join the October training cohort.
