Summer Learning Day Coming Up Soon!
Only three more days till Summer Learning Day! With over 70 communities participating so far, it's been exciting to hear about all the different plans afoot, both for the 21st and the rest of the summer. If you'd still like to celebrate and spread awareness, but need something fast and easy, consider these online options:
Encourage educators and others in your community to tune in to The 21, a twenty-one hour online broadcast of live programming in support of worldwide education. Each half-hour segment has a different theme, so there's bound to be something of interest to everyone.
Push to get families in your commuity registered for the NCFL's virtual summer camp! It's a fun way to keep learning during the summer, and absolutely free.
Twitter isn't just for killing time- you can use it to spread the word about summer learning in your online and offline communities. Use the hashtag #SLD2013 to join the conversation.
Be sure to let the National Summer Learning Association know what your community is up to this summer and put it on the map!
Below is a message from Gary Huggins, CEO of the National Summer Learning Association about Summer Learning Day that Ralph wanted me to share with you.
This Friday, June 21 is Summer Learning Day, a national day of advocacy and celebration recognized to spread awareness about the importance of summer learning for our nation's youth to close achievement gaps, advance academic skills, and support healthy development in communities all across the country.
Last year, we had nearly 450 events on the National Summer Learning Association's Summer Learning Day map. That's a powerful statement about the growing momentum in support of increasing summer learning opportunities for kids.
We need your support again this year! Please take a moment today, and put your 2013 program, activity, or event on our map at www.summerlearningdaymap.org. Whether you're a summer learning program, library hosting a summer reading program, or a summer meal site, we want to see you on the national map! It takes just a few minutes, and is a great opportunity to bring attention to your work, as well as add your voice to those working to advance summer learning opportunities for our nation's youth.
And when you put your event on our national map, you are automatically registered to win one free conference registration to NSLA's Summer Changes Everything™ national conference on summer learning!
Hope to see you on the map!
